We should be communicating the exact opposite. Yet the IOC wants to remain neutral, is weary of using the Olympic bid as a political tool. Yet, while I can certainly understand that response, the IOC can not both proclaim to be contributing to a better and more peaceful world and be neutral. It can not have its cake and eat it too. To change the world for the better you have to be willing to get your hands dirty. The IOC isn’t, at least not in that way. But they are certainly dragging the whole spirit of the Olympics through the mud in choosing Bejing.
It is my belief that the IOC in choosing a city to host the Olympics should take into consideration that country’s history of living up to the ideals set forth in their charter. It is a moral imperative that they do so. Otherwise, country’s wishing to reap the benefits of having the Olympics on their territory, and there are many, will not be compelled to change their ways in order to sway the IOC’s decision.
