3 Page Essay Victimless Crime

… Sometimes my attention span for reading is dreadfully short. When I do pick up a book that grabs me, though, I can lose myself in it for hours. This usually happens with pulp fiction paperbacks, the ones that are so easy to read that I can temporarily put the rest of my life on hold. These “page turners” can be anything from a mystery to a horror or crime novel to a romance, but whatever type of book it is, I relish the sense of detachment from reality. It’s a totally different feeling than watching television. When I read, I feel engaged and alive, as if I am taking part in the action. I tend to imagine myself in the plot, as one of the characters. I identify more with characters I read than with characters on TV, probably because reading involves far more thinking than most television shows.
When I am immersed in a novel or a short story, I also think a lot about language and writing. When I enjoy a book, I usually admire the author for his or her talents. I start to think in the style and rhythm of that particular writer. I also …
