The division of the people both inside and outside of the restaurant into groups reveals much about the larger social fabric. Diners are rich and coiffed, while the servers’ uniforms and task reveal their lower social standing. Most tellingly, the diners are largely white, while the servers are mostly African American or Hispanic. The diversity of passersby outside the restaurant reveals the true makeup of American society, and help to reveal the social structure within the restaurant.
The diners in the restaurant are all polished, urban, and professional. Their clothes look expensive, and they are composed, and well-mannered. The women are sleek and attractive; almost all are wearing jewelry and have carefully-arranged hair and makeup. The men are almost all in suits and ties; they look as if they’ve just come from a board meeting downtown. Almost all of the diners are white.
