However the highest risk of new onset of depression occurred between the ages of 18 –19 when major change was occurring in their lives. The researchers concluded that non-affective disorders during adolescence significantly increased the risk of depression during post-high school period both in women with and without prior depression. School performance and intimate relationship experiences were significantly more negative in women who had experienced depression episodes than those who had not.
