The extensive field of all disciplines which deals with design and manufacture of tools, machinery and all other mechanical tools to be used in industries is Mechanical engineering. In early 1920’s Mechanical Engineers played an extremely important role in the formation of mass production factories. In this world of materialization cost-saving production with automated and latest robotic technology in which Mechanical Engineers are playing key role. By the use of CAD and Pro-Engineering, Automated systems such as utilizing laser-processing and machining and superior sensor and imaging equipments etc. are being developed. Mechanical Engineers plan and design, build up service, or movable robots, and involuntary guided means of transportation, as well as space exploration vehicles. Many work on machinery and systems design. Design engineers are mainly concerned with new merchandise development but also upgrade existing designs to achieve extraordinary performance goals.

To have an advantage over competition engineers are to be certified. Certification is basically to tell the field of one’s expertise and registering with the government gives official Licensing which shows exceptional demand in automotive, aerospace and chemical engineering. Many belong to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Keeping up with latest technologies and growth in their field through reading, advanced courses, conferences and professional society seminars enhances the knowledge. Those who are hired with bachelor’s degrees may be expected to work towards their master’s. Most companies pay some or all of the costs for career-related education. Qualified engineers may promote to senior or project engineer. Some shift into management after several years of mechanical work.

Prior to graduation, applying for interview with recruiters on campus and also replying to ads in campus, newspapers and in professional journals. Networking through professional society meetings could also guide us to jobs. Some candidates also use the services of professional recruitment agencies and record with the nearest Employment Department Job Service.

Mechanical engineers work mainly in manufacturing firms and also may get to work in administrative and managerial positions, in governmental units or public and private sector industries or do research as well as teaching in Research and teaching institutes. They could also opt for technical sales / marketing or work as independent advisors.
