As Marines, they fought the enemy, integrated the Armed Services and changed their country. On the land, on the sea, the Marines have led the way. At home the fight was within the Corps. But barriers fell because of a few good men.
It was 1941, months before Pearl Harbor. The United States was still unbloodied by the horror gripping Europe and the Pacific, but the times were tense. It was against this backdrop, at the urging of his wife, Eleanor, and threatened by civil rights activist A. Philip Randolph with a march on Washington, that on June 25th President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802.
