The three key players in the Protestant reformation-Luther, Veldt and Zwingli- while all agreeing that the Catholic veneration of the image of saints was the next thing to idol worship, nevertheless had different ideas in the importance it held in the whole scheme.  Luther felt it was a secondary concern, because whether a person was engaged in adoration of an image or its destruction- the person was still a sinful human and the act was, therefore, unimportant.
