The Vitamin Model Essay

The Vitamin Model Essay

According to the job demand-control (JD-C) model, job demands and job control have an effect on employee well-being. The model suggests that the work environment can be characterised by a combination of high job demands and low job control (Karasek, 1979; Karasek and Theorell, 1990).

A similar approach has been developed by Warr (1987a) who in his vitamin model suggests that job characteristics affect mental health. Warr suggests nine (later 10) broad categories of job characteristics, grouping together the principal variables. Warrs vitamin model was based on the analogy that as vitamins are required for physical health, a similar pattern can be observed with the environmental features on the mental health and well-being of individuals. Although the JD-C model suggests an interaction effect, Warr (1987a, 1990), however, suggests a non-linear relationship between the job characteristics and mental health.

Health & Safety Essay

Health & Safety Essay

The realm of the working environment is immaterial; health, safety and welfare should be a major aspect of the management of any organisation and, or business. Legislation provides governance, directive and for the policing of these areas within all organisations. This assignment will explore and explain some of the factual and informed actions that now provide for the health and safety of the working environment.

During the Victorian era, bespoke measures were made to ensure safety but, in retrospect, many failures were found in the workers in industrial environments, these included: mining, the cotton mills and the foundries. Working conditions were grim and also profit was placed before risk assessment and safety measures.

How a firm may manage customers service encounters in order to create a satisfactory service experience. Essay

How a firm may manage customers service encounters in order to create a satisfactory service experience. Essay

Service is something that consumers use at any moment of any day. Watching television, taking a bus, surfing in the internet, visiting a dentist, can all be considered as examples of service consumption. Some consumers are pleased with the level of the services being delivered to them, however, there are consumers who are not always pleased with the quality and value of the services they receive. This happens due to the fact that there might be late deliveries, long queues, incompetent personnel or several other reasons. From a service provider point of view it is not always easy to find skilled employees, to make a profit or to capably fulfil their customers needs. On the contrary, there are service providers who do not face any of these problems and manage to create satisfactory service experiences (Lovelock and Wirtz, 2004). In a competitive environment in which firms are performing it is certainly not easy to deliver unique experiences, but it is in the hand of each manager to accomplish the above goal.

It is intuitive that organisations that can foresee trends and are capable of adapting to the changing environmental conditions should prove to be huge successes in their respective domains. It is this unparalleled capability that provides them with the unique edge in their competitive set. With the recent advent of globalisation supplemented by the advancements made in information-sharing technologies, it is very natural for multinational firms like Espoir Cosmetics to put efforts into moving in sync with the trends of the shrinking world. Hence, the student feels that Natasha Singh, the executive vice president and the global marketing officer of Espoir Cosmetics, is right to look at penetrating globally scattered markets.
