Taoism is a perfect example of this. The Taoist practitioner attempts to live and die in harmony with nature. Death is visible everywhere, even in the heavens. As disease, accident, and old age determine for us the length of our life, each person must come to terms with the inevitable. Just as nature is not something that humans rightfully own, death is not something that humans can rightfully control. In fact, our own death is one of the things that human beings most definitely can’t control. Western cultures promote immortality through technology, but this is more an attempt to evade death than it is to prolong life.
