… society rather than succumb to the short-term gratification of participating in its detriment.
While there are any number of social causes in my community that scream for assistance in these troubled times, the sobering reality is that whatever presence I represent for 365 days will be gone on the 366th, no matter how earnest my intentions. The homeless will still be without shelter. The abused will still go without champions. The hungry will once again go to sleep without a meal. But if in the course of that one year of volunteerism I can convince even one young teen that drugs, guns, and violence are not the answer and that a good education is—coupled with an awareness of being responsible for ones actions my role as a catalyst will have been of immeasurable value to his or her generation and to the one that follows.
